SC accepts unconditional apologies of 16 more PCO judges
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday accepted unconditional apologies of sixteen more judges who had validated November 3, 2007 emergency rule and took oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO). A five-member bench, consisting of Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, Justice Nasirul Mulk, Justice Fayyaz Ahmed, Justice Jawwad Khawaja and Justice Ghulam Rabbani, heard the contempt notices served on a number of former and sitting judges. In its order, the bench observed that since the judges had expressed remorse on their actions, besides tendering unconditional apologies, the notices served upon them stood withdrawn. Former PCO chief justice Abdul Hameed Dogar has also been served a contempt notice. He, however, decided to contest his case instead of tendering an apology. The former judges whose apologies were accepted are: Afzal Soomro, Tariq Shamim, Molvi Anwarul Haq, Khalid Alvi, Bilal Khan, Allama Khalid Mehmood, Dr Rashid Ahmed, Najumuz Zaman, Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan, Sakhi Hussain Bukhari, Asghar Haider, Nawaz Abbasi, Bin Yameen, Akram Qureshi, Zafar Iqbal and Maroof Khan. The bench would take up cases of other judges today (Tuesday). masood rehman
